Non-touristy paella. Unlike most of the paella places in BCN, this was a much more authentic recipe. Always look at the rice! If it’s yellow, it’s a tourist trap. If it’s caramel brown, you’re in good hands. Our native Barcelona friends brought us here.

Fantastic food, great service and table in the courtyard. What's not to love! PAELLA? THIS IS THE PLACE! We started with the baby calamari, a variation of croquettes and the seafood paella for two stunning! The best paella I've had! Great service, english friendly and very helpful recommendations across the menu. I cannot recommend this place highly enough!

Located in a busy area with a lot to do. The restaurant kitchen is on the main floor and seating is downstairs. The dining area was very charming with old stone walls with a modern lighting. The tomato bread is so good and I'm really enjoying this local appetizer. The seafood paella had two large shrimps with plenty of clams and mussels. The dish is cooked fresh and the rice is cooked perfectly with some crust around the edge. The price is extremely reasonable and the seasoning on the paella is flavorful.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Barcelona’s Ciutat Vella, Restaurant La Gambeta stands out as a genuine haven for lovers of authentic Spanish cuisine, especially paella. Far from the usual tourist traps dominating the city, this charming spot on Carrer de la Fusina offers a paella experience anchored in tradition, where the caramel brown rice signals a truly well-executed dish — a detail praised by native locals and discerning diners alike.

The atmosphere captures a perfect blend of old-world charm and modern comfort. With its dining room set beneath stone walls illuminated by contemporary lighting, La Gambeta invites you to relax and savor each bite. The main-floor kitchen adds an element of transparency, connecting guests to the craft behind each plate.

Among the highlights, the seafood paella shines with freshness and generous portions — large shrimp, clams, and mussels come together with perfectly cooked rice that forms a celebrated crust along the edges. This crisp socarrat is the mark of skill and patience, turning a staple dish into an experience. Accompaniments like the tender baby calamari, croquettes, and the delightful tomato bread reflect careful attention to local flavors and textures, enhancing the overall journey through Catalan cuisine.

Dishes extend beyond paella, with selections such as orange duck paired with sweet mashed potatoes and succulent sirloin with shallots earning high praise for their execution and seasoning. Service here strikes a balance between friendly and knowledgeable, with attentive staff guiding diners through their menu, ensuring an intimate and welcoming dining experience.

While opinions may vary, the essence of La Gambeta lies in its honest approach to regional recipes and ambiance. Whether you seek a cozy courtyard table or an inviting spot downstairs, the restaurant combines charm, authenticity, and flavor to create a meal worth returning to in Barcelona’s bustling culinary scene.
